RICS North-West Award
Thursday 10th May 2007
Hornby Village Institute has won the Community Benefit Award at the prestigious RICS (Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors) North-West Awards 2007.
The building was refurbished under the direction of Harrison Pitt Architects and beat
stiff competition from a number of high profile schemes from other parts of the region.
The project was praised by the judges for the way in which the building has been given
a new lease of life, making it a focal point of the community.
The Institute reopened in 2006, and is now used by many different groups for activities
as diverse as cadets, through to ballroom dancing, theatre productions, business
seminars, bridge clubs, jazz concerts and IT courses. The building also contains a
snooker room, and a drop-in lounge where local residents meet daily to have a coffee
and read the papers.
