The Hitching Post
Lancaster University
The client approached hpa to design a new Hitching Post for the main roundabout at the entrance to the University Campus. The post would be probably the first building visitors to the University would see, and therefore a high quality design was required.
The finished design provides a welcoming point in which students can shelter when waiting for lifts back into the city centre.
The plan of the shelter and surrounding landscaping responds to the contours of the land, and the layout of the roads. The choice of materials pays respect to the award winning Ruskin Library which lies just opposite the Hitching Post.
